Welcome to Peacefinders

We are a group of adult learners who are finding peace of mind and fulfilment through learning. As a group we've shared experiences, gained in confidence and widened our horizons.

We created this microsite to encourage other adults to enjoy the learning journey.

Peacefinders is based at Philiphaugh Community School in Selkirk and is a Learning for ALL project.

SUCCESS ! WHAT IT MEANS TO ME.

                           Our new Project

We  are  involved  with  other   learning groups  in  publishing  a book  to  help  celebrate  the  success  of  Adult  Learning, and are  looking  for  material  from  other  Adult  Learning  groups  in  our  area.Based  on  personal  achievments  their   journey  so  far, and  difficulties  found  on  the  journey, skills  achieved  and  recognition.

The aim of this book is to give people encouragement in knowing it is possible that they too can learn

LARRY

I had a lot of things going wrong in life and had no confidence in myself and no trust in people. I used to hide my lack of reading. It would make me nervous.

Then I went to the Big Plus to learn to read, write and spell better. At first it was one to one as I did not want to be in a group as I have to win peoples trust.

The first group I went to I did not like. But now I am in this group I have got some confidence back. We do different things in the group which is fun and would recommend to people in the same way.

LOTTIE

Hi my name is Lottie, to me you are never too late to learn.

I hated school and I would not learn, but now I went back to school at the age of 62 years and I really like it.

I see things in a new life.

KATH

When I first came to school I worked with Louisa on her own. Now that the group has started we do different things, like workshops and poetry. I look forward to coming to the sessions and find out what we are going to do next. When we get together we can talk about our own experiences and share them. By coming to these sessions it has certainly built my confidence and made me realize that I could go on and do more courses.

ELLY

I joined this group as part of The Adult learning process. The reason being I discovered late in life that problems I had always had were due to learning problems.

I like coming to the group because it makes me see things differently, makes me use my brain and I get a lot of encouragement from working together with the other members in the group.
