Learning at Work – Scottish Borders Council is working in conjunction with the Learning for ALL project, Learning at Work, based in Langlee, Galashiels to address literacy and numeracy skills for work.
We sometimes take reading, writing, numeracy and other skills for granted. However, there are many reasons why some people struggle with these day to day skills. There are also many good reasons for lacking these skills and we will be working with the council to offer literacy and numeracy support to employees.
Written communication and using numerical infomation support people to work effectively, efficiently and safely. Equally, these skills support people with everyday activities in their home lives and as part of the community. Community based literacy and numeracy tuition is also available by contacting local project workers. We can help you with the following: - using numbers
- understanding and giving written information
- expressing ideas and opinions
- making decisions
- solving problems
- spelling
- punctuation
- grammar.
Learning at work can help you to be more confident about about the written and numerical aspects of your job: - filling in forms
- getting things down on paper
- writing at work: reports, email etc
- understanding communications
- working out a budget
- understanding measurement
You will make a learning plan with your tutor and you can expect to: - learn at your own pace
- choose what you want to work on
- work in a small group or on a course
The tutor will help you see the progress that you make, and when you’re ready to move on, will help you decide what to do next. To start improving your skills at work, contact Phil Orr on 01896 755110.
